Memory lane

Vintage photos Homer Laughlin Fiestaware coffee mug

There could be better ways to spend a holiday weekend, but this is my favorite.

Thumbing through boxes of my grandmother’s old photos — some interesting (apparently my great-grandparents were members of the 1930s Full of Pep Chicago dance club — who knew?) and some hilarious (hello, unidentified man holding his prize turkey) — all intriguing. (The top photo in this picture shows bridesmaids and guests mingling after my grandparents’ wedding in 1947.)

Add in some of my grandma’s original “Old Fiesta” ware and it’s a perfect match. (Side note: Did you see this collector’s guide to Fiestaware in the latest issue of Country Living? Love it.)

Hoping you have an equally restful Labor Day weekend. It might not be tackling the to-do list, but revisiting family history is still time well spent.
